Cat with Hands
Thursday, February 24th, 2005This is a bloody awesome short film that I stole from Danko's journal. Go see it! It's really well done :). Not too long, either. About 4 minutes, I think?

I just read a really awesome play, that Aaron recommended. It's really surreal and insane. Everyone ought to read it, if they haven't yet. The play is titled "On Borrowed Time", and it's based on a book by Lawrence Edward Watkins. It was adapted for the stage by Paul Osborn. I won't explain it any more, besides giving it my highest recommendation.

Brink. Because man's logic is the most pitiful thing about him. It stands in his way. It confuses him, so that he can't quite see the giants.
Well, last Friday night was quite interesting.
Aaron and I devoted the entire night until 12 frantically finishing Physics problems to turn in online. (They were due at precisely 11:59:59 on Friday). Then, relieved that we had gotten them done (nearly all of them, actually–I missed two, and I was about to submit one when the time ran out; the other would have taken another minute to do), we abandoned our homework states of mind, and went running off to Safeway in order to support a drinking party… of the most pleasant kind. We procured various kinds of root beer, cream soda, and orange soda, and proceeded to down them with rigorous fervor to the strains of various happy music like Electric Light Orchestra, Elton John, Billy Joel, and Elliott Smith. It was brilliant, and we have glass (soda) bottles scattered all over the room. The remnants of an impressively non-alcoholic college drinking party.
Cheers!
Found this online at DeviantART. You guys really should take a look, because it's awesome and hilarious.
For those of you that don't get the joke in its entirety, go to:

Okay, to clarify. I am all for looking at literature in various lights. So, looking at the sex and women's roles in a few pieces of Literature is all fine and dandy. But do we bloody have to look at it in EVERY SINGLE WORK WE DO?
Methinks there be more to literature than sex
She has had a lot of interesting points on the subject. Frankenstein is a birth novel, in a sense. Frankenstein MAY very well have been influenced by Shelley's relationship with Percy Shelley and Lord Byron. It might even be useful in SOME cases to know about them having sex on her mother's grave. But I was expecting a survey of Literature; instead I'm getting "sex in literature", with a few other themes thrown in. That last class period was simply the straw that broke the camel's back. When she started the class out by talking about this weird theory that she didn't even explain well enough for me to see past its apparent absurdity to whatever truth was behind it, and then seemed about to go into exploring the text based on this theme, I just couldn't take it. If I wanted to spend a day or two looking at Frankenstein from a perspective I don't agree with, and one that is a bit tangential even, I'd be in a bloody class on the subject. I am not. So, I really don't see why we can't have a more even view of the text–surely she can teach about the basic themes in Literature at an undergraduate level, at least.
I am not against discussing sex. I am not against discussing homosexuality. I am certainly not against women's roles being less constricting. BUT, I am against that being all there is to literature.
Disclaimer: I am exaggerating for a point. She has explored philosophy, and racism in the couple works that REQUIRED her to do that.
Well, if I can finish two essays, and finish two lab reports tonight (and read the rest of Frankenstein, if I can), I'll be set for tomorrow, when I'll only need to do three sets of Physics problems.
In other news… No, there really isn't any other news. That's horrible. Life is school, right now.. Bleh!
However, there is something amusing that happened the other day. Amusing in a horrible way. I may have mentioned how Dr. Fowler tends to talk about the sex and women's roles is every single literary work we read. So, a couple days ago Becky and I were joking around about how she was going to talk about the role of sex in Frankenstein, because that's obviously what the story is about. So, we go to class, and I'm still joking around a bit about that, until about five minutes into class, when I'm pretty much in class. She managed it. She strongly related Frankenstein to sex, and we ended up talking about sex for the entire first (out of three) period of reading Frankenstein. I'd be amused by it if it weren't so painful…. I really hope this isn't the only thing with which we examine Frankenstein, or I'm going to be very unhappy about the whole thing.
Anyway, that's the amusing story…
Last night, I took some pictures of the wooden figurine I've got sitting on my dresser. I thought some of them turned out pretty darn cool, but go ahead and take a look for yourself.
In other news, I'm doing pretty well at not dying. I've still got a lot of work to do before Friday is over, but it looks like I might actually manage to pull it off. I got an extension on the religion essay (24 hours more), and the Religion quiz isn't until NEXT Thursday, which takes a load off my mind. In addition, a couple quizzes and tests are now behind me, and no longer burdening my mind.
I am going to die…
Today I have already done about 39 pages of reading, I still have 23. And this isn't nice, happy reading. This is LONG, small print, large pages, reading. It's quite painful. This is just for one class, which has a midterm on Wednesday. This midterm has a take-home essay that is due on Friday.
In addition to that, I have another midterm on Thursday, for Religion. On the same day, we have a paper on the Book of Mark due. There is a TON of reading to do for that. Say, 20 pages a say, for the past two weeks that I haven't read the stuff, at 2 days a week. So, Around 80 pages or more, just to read the stuff that I haven't gotten to yet.
Because of the midterms, I have to REVIEW everything. So, along with reading the billions of pages, I have to skim through everything for both classes, and make sure I have an intimite knowledge of it all…
Now, if I had no other classes, this might be a feasible thing. However….
I have two lab reports due this friday.
I have reading for Lit every day–a third of Marry Shelley's Frankenstein by Wednesday, and another third by Friday.
I have a Calc quiz sometime this week, and I have to learn the stuff for that.
We have probably two sets of Physics problems due on Friday–these sets have typically taken 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hours to finish.
I should probably read two Chapters of the Physics book–60 pages of HUGE TEXTBOOK…
I think that's all….
In short…
Pray for me.
Happy Valentine's Day to all you people out there! Hugs to everyone, but especially to those who are feeling unloved, or lonely! *hugs!* Hope you all enjoy your holiday, and know that I love a good portion of you! :D I won't say everyone, because there're a lot of people to love, and I might not have gotten around to you completely, but I really do hope you have a wonderful day today. Cheers!
Well, I just cleaned my room very well, and it's cleaner than it's been since we arrived here in Spokane. I also vacuumed the room for the first time it's gotten that treatment in the time we've been here.
Here's some pictures:
